Weekend Update

We had a very busy weekend and sadly not much to show for it. We have been hoping to get some house stuff done, but no such luck. Per usual I was busy with the apartment building most of Saturday and then I met friends to watch the Badger game. Sunday we had a brunch date and Discovery World plans.

The boys love sitting in things.

We used our Groupon for Discovery World this weekend. We had plans to meet friends; I won't say who but we had one couple cancel on us (hope you enjoyed your hangover Dustin) and another couple completely forgot (glad I mean so much to you Joe), so we were on our own. The boys had fun even without their friends.

The most frequent discovery at Discovery World is germs. Not only do the kids touch everything, including the floors, but there are a lot of buttons and levers. Kinda gross and I'm really not even a germaphobe.

Check out those Captain America light-up shoes. They are huge. Henry has a giant pair of Lightning McQueen shoes. They are so UGLY but the boys love them. Thanks Grandma DJ.

Saturday I had to run to Home Depot so I convinced the boys to come with me by bribing them with a Home Depot hot dog. I was afraid someone would puke at the sight of Cole's outfit. Stripes and camo is a lot to take in. Henry's favorite color is red if you didn't know. Same as the devil...

We didn't even stop by the new house this weekend. Fingers crossed we do better this coming weekend!

Father's Night

Two weeks ago we had Father's Night at preschool. They were Hawaiian themed and my invite said I should dress accordingly...I didn't. I don't know if I would have anyway, but I really don't have a Hawaiian shirt. Each class had a Father's Night so I went twice. The classes did basically the same things, so as a result, I got really good at making paper ukulele's and doing the limbo. It would have been nice to consider parents with kids in both classes and change it up a bit, but I guess that would be a pain. It was fun to see the boys with their classmates and how they interact with their teachers.

I only have a couple pictures from the Henry night. Sorry Cole, my phone ran out of juice.

Last week at preschool the Center for the Blind came in to give Cole's class an eye test. He got an eye test at his 4 year old well visit so we know he doesn't have issues but still thought it would be nice for him to participate. Apparently Cole disagreed. When Kristin picked him up that day, his report stated "Refused test." Super embarrassing. When Kristin asked Cole about his behavior and the test he said, "I don't need to be tested, I know I'm not blind."

Brackets Done!

The boys completed their first NCAA brackets. I don't think they are going to do very well. For the most part they just took the second team I said, so they often picked the underdogs. I'll try to remember to post the results, including my bracket if I do well and can talk smack to the boys.

Cole's bracket. Gonzaga to win...not likely.

Henry's bracket. Eastern Kentucky to win...sorry, Hen. I don't think so.

My billion dollar bracket. Although I didn't really enter in the Buffet bracket challenge because I heard they require your phone number.

(Update:  After day 1, of course, we all stunk it up. Cole got 5 games right. Henry 4 and I got a whopping 12. Better luck next year.)
_____________

Kristin has a cold this week so the other night I decided to stay up late and do some house stuff for her. After a long day at work, a little work at the new house, after reading to the boys, after an hour and a half or so of bills and business I stayed up late and picked up the kitchen a little, got the coffee ready, unloaded the dishwasher, etc. In the morning, I did not get a thank you from Kristin. I got nothing. Not a word, until she mocked me for thinking I did something nice. Some people marry doctors...just sayin'.

Recent pictures; while waiting for Great Grandma for their standing Thursday date. For once we were early.

No Grandma yet.

Grandma's here!

Random parent thought: It would be nice to be hairless. I take Cole and Henry out of the tub and they are completely dry by the time we get to their rooms. Amazing.

Beef

It's not what's for dinner...it is Henry's new, self-appointed, nickname. The boys often play pretend and like to be called and call each other the names of their pretend characters, usually from TV shows; Captain Barnacle, Quasi, Ryder or Chase, Worry Bear and Julius Junior or Dusty and Dirty Dan. BUT Beef came out of nowhere - no TV shows have a Beef and Kristin doesn't even cook beef so I really don't know how Henry knows the word beef. But Beef he is...and when he is being particularly stubborn about his new name the rest of us are Mommy Beef, Daddy Beef and even Bampa Beef. The rest of us are not happy with our nicknames and hope Beef decides to be Henry again soon.

On the Move

We're moving! Elm Grove here we come.

I'm a little nervous moving out to the burbs. I had trouble keeping up with the mowing of our 600 square foot yard. Now I have about 26,000 square feet to maintain. This won't go well, and I'm definitely making Kristin learn how to use a lawnmower. It is also super dark in our neighborhood at night without all the City lights. It is going to be an adjustment!

We went through some tough negotiations with the 89 year old lady who lived here. I'm sad to say that she won. She was ruthless and just would not budge on anything. A very unreasonable old bag. We finally met her at the closing last week and she turned out to be very nice, so I apologize for all the smack I've been talking about her for the past month.

As excited as we are, the move is also bittersweet. We have poured a lot of blood and sweat, a few tears and a shitload of dollars into our current house. The boys love our house and the big playroom (a.k.a. dining room). We love our neighbors and neighborhood and it will all be missed, except for the drunk college kids, car alarms and petty vandalism, of course. The new house is smaller than our current house so it is forcing us to really edit all our shit. We are apparently hoarders (mostly me), so as hard as it is, it is good that there just isn't enough room for all my useless crap. This weekend we will start on some painting and other work to get it ready for move-in. Unless we sell our house, it will be a slow move since the boys are in preschool in Shorewood until the end of May.

Let me know if you have someone interested in moving to the East Side, I have just the house for them.

Movie Time

I feel a little bit better about the winter weather after taking the kids to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. If you've read this book or seen the movies, you know the weather could be worse! Actually, we saw Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. We thought we were seeing the first one because the Marcus website forgot the "2." The boys are very familiar with the book so luckily seeing a movie about what happens after the book didn't seem to phase them.  Mark it down, this was the kids first movie theater experience.

Overall, it went pretty well. The boys ate their weight in popcorn and snacks. During a few scary parts, Cole said he wanted to go home. A couple times pretty loud, so I was waiting for another parent to tell us to just take the poor kid home. He pulled through though, and I think he enjoyed the movie. I did have to take Cole out of the movie once to get more snacks, but really I think he just wanted a break. This was my first time ever leaving a theater during a movie. At least I got a hot dog out of it. Sadly, the dog was $4.75. Outrageous! Henry also spilled yogurt everywhere. All over his pants and the seat. Although, I spilled a big glob of ketchup and mustard on my shirt, so I won't throw stones.

Below are some dark pictures of our experience. I didn't have the balls to turn on the flash.

Another first over the weekend came in a game of swords between Cole and I. Our first game ever. I was going to the bathroom, when suddenly Cole popped in and pulled up (and out) next to me while I was going. When I was done he asked why my sword melted. I think I will enjoy getting bathroom privacy back some day.
