a day in the life

our lifestyle and days have certainly changed since having cole. it is a constant challenge to fit everything in and we never do. everyday is always a little different; for those considering kids or expecting - beware, for those remembering these days - enjoy, and for those of you currently experiencing days just like this - we understand!

5:30am: wake up to get ready for work after hitting snooze on my alarm 6x...nick will swear it was 8x

5:45am: out of the shower and contemplating if i should turn on the blow dryer and risk waking the baby...i listen for a moment and hear he is up and chatting to himself. smooth hair day it is!

6:15am: should have left for work 15 minutes ago but cole is up and happy so i stop in for a goodbye kiss. he is all smiles and soaking wet. i change his diaper and tell him to have a good day. he is happy to go back in his crib and look at his mobile.

7:10am: my first email from nick about their morning. cole is on his changing table trying to feed himself. he is wearing shorts and his chubby legs look so squeezable. i wish i could kiss him.

11:00am-1:00pm: after much discussion over email, nick and i decide to purchase an extendable sun shade for cole's new stroller. it zips on the existing canopy, can go down to his toes if need be and has built in UV protection. free shipping on amazon. i toss a drink holder and some pacifier clips into our cart. online shopping is awesome.

4:00pm: done with work! i hop in the car and race over to nick's mom's house. can't wait to see my bubber and hear about his day. i hope he napped for grandma!

4:40pm: on the highway heading home. no nap for cole during the day but he is sleeping now. i have my fingers crossed traffic is not horrible and cole doesn't wake up and lose his shit.

5:30pm: cole is asleep in his car seat by the front door. bella has been out and fed, and i have opened all the windows in the house so there is a nice breeze. i am on the couch finishing my People magazine. double awesome.

6:00pm: nick is home. baby is up. bella is going nuts. time to start dinner (why didn't i start it when everything was calm?).

6:40pm: quick walk with the family before bath and bedtime. bella is thrilled to be out and about and is sniffing everything. cole loves watching her from his stroller.

7:10pm: bathtime! i get cole's tub ready while he plays in his jumper. nick is cleaning up the kitchen, starting the dishwasher and making a bottle.

7:40pm: clean snuggly baby in my lap. we are rocking and cole is eating his bottle and holding my hand. one of my favorite times.

8:10pm: cole is in his room partying. woke up after i put him down and is rolling around in his crib and chatting. i choose to ignore him and will him to fall asleep. so glad it is not crying.

8:20pm: despite the 6 baskets of clean laundry that need folding i decide to watch the real housewives of NY. totally worth it.

9:00pm: tell nick i am going to bed. stop in to check on the babe and give him yet another kiss. nick stays up and folds all 6 baskets of laundry...guess that makes nick pretty damn awesome.

yesterday was a good day.

Tooth...Teeth!

I can not believe our little baby has teeth! Although, based on all the chewing, whining and drooling Cole has been up to lately it really comes as no surprise.

And now for the grand finale...2 teeth!

Cole is thrilled that we finally got a picture. Now we can stop pinching his cheeks and shoving our zoom lense in his mouth.

Sitting Up or Something Else?

Nick sent me this picuture this morning.

His message was, "Uh oh. Someone can sit up in his cradle." If this is truly what Cole was trying to do, we are in for some trouble. Cole usually hangs out in his cradle all morning long while Nick showers and gets ready for work. When I saw the picture, my first reaction was, "Oh Shit." I remembered all the comments from friends and family regarding a mobile baby and figured this was the start of it all.

However, upon closer inspection of his face, I think Cole was up to something else.

Five Months...

Cole has made some big changes since he passed his 4 month marker...we can not believe he has been with us for 5 months already. We love him more and more everyday and are having tons of fun. Highlights of Month 4 are below.

His luxurious mane seems to be thinning a bit but his bald spot is filling in.

He proved to be a pretty good little traveler.

His first sampling of rice cereal from a teaspoon because we hadn't yet purchased any appropriate baby spoons

Belle of the Ball at his baptism

No more midnight snacks

So strong!

Cole is noticing Bella more now and loves to watch her race around the house and up and down the stairs. Bella is still warming up to him...I think she still needs to resign herself to the fact that Cole is here to stay.

Baby Torture

As a parent, you will try everything to make your baby smile or laugh, obviously a happy baby is better than a crabby baby.  The feeling you get when a smile spreads across their face or a giggle escapes is pretty awesome. The other day, I had Cole on the changing table and was making faces and noises to make him laugh.  As I was trying out different techniques I made quite the discovery. I hit an octave or tone that Cole hates, hates so much it brought him to tears. With this simple sound, Cole goes from smile to frown instantly. Admittedly, it is a pretty awful sound. He may hate me (hopefully only for a little while) for doing this, but Kristin and I have trouble resisting; it is pretty funny.  We demonstrated this trick for Crissy and Brett last Saturday and they also agreed it was pretty comical.  We decided to make a video and stop the tourture.  The first video has better faces but is poor quality, so we shot another one...yep, extending the torture for a few more minutes. No "Parent of the Year" awards for us, I guess.  Enjoy.

Dad vs. Baby - Round 2

Round 2

I had another napping battle with Cole this weekend and I am proud to say that I won. Suck on that Cole! I really psyched myself up for this one and was set to let him scream for more than 10 minutes. It was tough, but around minute 13 he fell asleep.

Cole = 1
Dad = 1

Beware of the Cheek Turn

Once Cole gets older and can talk, I imagine it will be awkward to give him kisses and say “I love you," so I am trying to fit in all that good stuff now. Cole is not really cooperating though. More often than not, you go in to give him a kiss on the cheek and he turns at the last second. Instead of a quick cheek peck, you get a great big, disgusting, drool-filled mouth kiss. I'm hoping he is just practicing this little trick to try out on the ladies later in life, but it is still gross. The worst are the times after a formula burp or spit up and you forget about his “move” and you get an even messier mouth kiss. I guess, in a lot of ways, parenting is like a game of Fear Factor, minus Joe Rogan.

You Make the Call

The other day I came home from work to find Kristin playing with Cole in his Johnny Jump Up. Then, as he often does, Cole spit up on the floor. Without missing a beat, Kristin called Bella over and had her lick it up. I was appalled. I have seen Bella eat her own puke and poop before, which are both unbelievably disgusting, but at least they were her own. I don't know, I found this to be a pretty gross move but Kristin seemed to think it wasn't that big of a deal. You be the judge, gross or not?
