Bad Hornet

On Wednesday Henry took one right in the eyelid from a hornet. He was playing on top of the Stear's patio wall when I saw the big MoFo land right on his eye. It got him before I could get there and shoo it away. Luckily he didn't fall off the wall when it stung him, or get a stinger in the eyeball. It looked terrible at first but after some Tylenol and a little ice the swelling went down pretty quick. And to look on the bright side, he didn't go into Anaphylatic shock so we know he isn't allergic. In addition to being hurt I think his feelings were hurt too. He still has a little red mark where it stung him and he will tell anyone who will listen, "a hornet bite me."

"Cut me, Mick" (Rocky reference - I'm sure our kids will not pick up on that when they read this in the future)

Swelling already getting a little better. By Thursday afternoon his eye looked normal.

Cole was very nice and was giving Henry hugs and gave him his tomato.

The video below further convinces me that Kristin will never survive Henry and his risk taking behavior.

Busy Busy Busy

We had a very busy weekend and I over did on pictures, so beware.

Friday
On Friday we met Dustin, Amy and Zoey in the downtown Milwaukee area to take a trolley ride, which is really a bus painted and decorated like a trolley. The kids seemed to love it though. We did the full loop, stopping for ice cream.  We figured it probably felt nice going for a ride out of their car seats.

Cole and Henry loved running up and down this ramp. Cole also met a friend, Matthew, who didn't seem to have parents.

Saturday
Uncle Ben came over Saturday to visit the boys. We ended up walking over to the nearby park. We then headed back to the house and let Cole and Henry run through the sprinkler. We then had a nice visit with GG (everyone got ice cream so of course everyone was happy). I later ditched Kristin and met Joe to watch the Packer game.

Cole was super brave climbing pretty high up on the ropes.

Sunday
Admittedly, Sunday was a bit much. I'm still tired. We started off the day with brunch at Highlands Cafe with Aunt Jess, Other Grandpa and Great Grandma. We then drove home, packed up and drove to Okauchee Lake for a boat ride. Then dinner at Normal Grandma's and Bampa's house and finally home for bed! Probably doesn't sound like much but we were all very exhausted by the end of it.

Before brunch we found a river, bridge and some rocks. Always a fun mix.

Cole tried to go potty on the boat. Didn't end up happening, but he did decide to just go bottomless. I'm sure it felt nice to let the nuts breathe for awhile.

Cole going balls out on the boat.

Helping Bampa with his garden and eating beans and tomatoes off the vines has been a highlight of the summer.

Side Note
Kristin decided to volunteer me as the "Equipment" person at the boy's Preschool.  I'm not sure what that means, but Kristin initially described it as just volunteering with the school to help out with some fix-it/maintenance stuff at the school. Next thing you know I am on the School Board and have to speak at the upcoming Orientation meeting and bring a snack! I'm also sure they will be thrilled to find out that I'm no Handy Manny (man, I need to stop watching kid shows). I'll be the only Board member that has to bring their Dad to help out with their duties.

People should really remember to double check spelling. Below is a screenshot of the school's website. Nick does not really fuck equipment. That's a lie.

Time to Pretend

Cole and Henry start most days with breakfast in front of the television. I know, real good parenting. They were previously really into Chugginton (for those that don't know it is a show about talking trains). There new favorite show is Octonauts; basically a show about weird looking cats and bunnies exploring the ocean. I am happy they chose Octonauts since Kristin also tried to get them into My Little Pony (no bronies here!).

Anyway, Cole and Henry have been playing pretend games more and more. I have had to "play" games of Chuggington, which from what I can tell is pretending all the trains keep getting stuck in mud or soot and we have to pull them out, wash them (in the Chug Wash) and push a button to go down to the bottom to save them (this game has been dubbed "Brokedown Chugger"). I often have no idea what Cole and Henry are doing or talking about until I catch some reference to Octonauts or some other show (luckily I also watch these shows now).

The pretend stuff is fine, except I am finding at my age I really hate pretending and these pretend games go on and on. You just keep doing the same thing over and over again. It is also much more weird and awkward then I remember. At least when Cole was talking about trains stuck in "soot" it sounded like "shit." Cole would tell me we have to "go clean the shit up." That was at least somewhat funny. I am just looking forward to the boys starting their athletics and playing some real games.

After some weekend chores were finished, I pretended Henry was helpful and awarded him with his first Home Depot dog.

Pretending/Kinda swimming in the tub. I hope I never got that personal with my brother. No offense Jer.

Lollapalooza 2013!

We are back from our three days at Lollapalooza in Chicago. The trip was a lot of fun and it was nice to get away. Going to a music fest has been on our bucket list so it was nice to finally get the chance. We saw many of the bands we are currently listening to such as The Lumineers, Vampire Weekend, The Killers and Mumford & Sons. We also saw some random bands like New Order, Family of the Year and Matt & Kim. I will spare you the reviews, but Kristin and I were both surprised to find that we enjoyed The Killers the most. I also thought it was cool to see a Mumford and Sons guitarist have a "Milwaukee America's Drunkest City" sticker on his guitar, which reminds me: all they served was Budweiser products. Yucky! On the plus side, I enjoyed a $9 Graham Elliot Lobster Corn Dog. I also lost my phone in a cab, but Holly of the Emerald Loop, which was only a block away from our hotel, found it and texted Kristin. I was very happy and surprised to not even be inconvenienced over the whole matter.

Besides watching the bands, the people-watching was amazing. I'm not sure I understand today's fashion choices (we are getting old). Admittedly, the crowds and lines got to be a little much (again, we're getting old). Kristin actually had a panic attack while watching Mumford & Sons because we got so tightly packed in with everybody else. It was overwhelming but she is also a baby and worries too much.

It sounds like the kids had fun without us. They kept busy between the grandparents, going to a Fuchs family reunion, visiting cousins, working in Bampa's garden and going on a boat ride. Like I said, it was nice to get away but damn did we miss those guys!

Crowd waiting to see Imagine Dragon

The Port O Pots got quite disgusting. I'm glad to be a man. Kristin timed her wait before Mumford & Sons and it was over 20 minutes.

Squeezed in some sightseeing on our way to Grant Park
I have never seen so many ass cheeks outside of diaper changes

Our first Facebook type phone pic...that you will not see on Facebook

Not Lolla related, but thought I would show Uncle Ben's shaving cream hookup. That should last me awhile.
