Who's Worse...

Kristin and I did not shine as parents this weekend. I like to think that we are usually pretty good, but we both made bad decisions.

On Friday night, Kristin and our neighbor decided to have four bottles of wine during "driveway beers". Kristin did this knowing that Cole had a 9:00 a.m. soccer game on Saturday, not to mention a bunch of other stuff going on that day. Not surprisingly, she was too hungover to make it to soccer. Then she was too hungover to make it to 12:00 p.m. swim lessons. She popped out of our room for about three minutes to take two bites of the wonderful dinner I prepared (Mac & Cheese) and then went to bed. Obviously, she also did not do the typical Kristin work she is supposed to do on Saturdays (e.g. cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, etc.).

Henry did not dress appropriately for Cole's soccer game. He was still insisting on wearing shorts this morning, so I don't think he learned his lesson.

The boys enjoyed their first trip to Subway (as we were trying to take care of ourselves while Kristin was incapacitated).

My bad decision: The short version would be...a four and five year old and a scooter for eight year olds...what could go wrong?

If you recall, awhile back we posted pics of the scooter Great Grandpa acquired and gave to the boys. Grandpa recently secured training wheels to it, so the boys could ride solo and safely. I decided we should take the scooter to Cole's school and give the boys a larger area to ride around on. Cole did great and was cruising around at top speed. Henry tried it out, but fell twice. I was smart enough to run along the side of him, so I managed to catch him on his falls.

Cole wanted to go up and down the little hill they have in the parking lot. I was a little nervous, but he tried it and did fine. Then he tried it again, got going too fast, and had a huge wipe out. He had road rash on his shoulder, elbow and both knees. It looked awful and I thought he was seriously injured when I saw it happen. Luckily, right as I was about to pull out of the driveway, Cole remembered the helmets so no brain damage (that we've noticed).

I'm proud to say Cole was super tough about it, barely cried and shook it off real quick. I think it just scared him more than anything. Then at the park he got stuck on this climbing net and I told him to just jump down and he would be fine. After some encouragement from me, he finally jumped. Of course, his foot got caught and he fell right on his back. More tears. We decided to go home soon thereafter.

A video of the crash is posted at the bottom of the blog. It is hard to catch the full fall because I saw it coming and started to panic, so the video was no longer a priority.
