Pool

This Sunday we went to the Yacht Club swimming pool with the High family. Yes, you can start calling me  Commodore if you like (Captain works too). It was Cole's first time bringing a date to the pool and Lucy's first time swimming. I think Cole should really reconsider bringing dates to the pool though. He's very pale and, lets be honest, a little pudgy (he has to wear a t-shirt).

Before jumping in we stopped at the Tiki bar for a drink with the grandparents. Surprise of the year - Grandpa Gregg did not order a Miller Lite...just kidding, of course he did! Cole got overheated pretty quickly, so he had to be extracted from his Lycra swim shirt; getting Lucy in her suit was pretty labor intensive as well. But well worth it because they were both so 'stylin.

Once in the pool Cole splashed around and tried to drink the pool water, and like the previous swimming ventures, he seemed pretty neutral about the whole thing. No smiles or any outward clues that he was having a good time...we'll keep trying!

Yep, I have to wear a t-shirt poolside as well.

Crib Droppin' Time

We will be busy dropping Cole's crib mattress tonight before bedtime. How is this possible already?

Holy Shit!

I walked into Cole's room last night and to my surprise he was up on the top bar of his crib. It freaked me out a bit as I didn't know he could do that. I wish babies would just give you some warnings. It would make things a lot easier if Cole would just say, "Oh hey, I can pull myself up now." or "Oooh, it's messy in there. Be careful!"

The best part? After he did it once and we snapped some pictures, it was like he was a circus animal performing in his cage. He did it again, and again, and again.

Zoo Trip

Last Sunday we took Cole to the zoo for the first time. The trip started off well – I found out we don’t have to pay for Cole until he is three. And really, it’s not like they card him, so we can probably stretch that out until he’s four or five.

We decided to put Cole in the Bjorn, so he could see and we could avoid taking him in and out of the stroller. Luckily, my super human strength still allows me to carry him around. Our first stop was the giraffes. We thought he would love them because he loves his toy giraffe, Sophie. We were wrong. He kept his neutral face on.

Not Sophie

Then we saw a couple elephants across the way. Nothing. Just kept his neutral face going. It was at this point, a whopping 15 minutes into our trip, that I realized we wasted money on the zoo.

Neutral Face

There were a couple things that I think Cole did enjoy. He liked the fish a lot. I think they were easy for him to see and much more active than the other animals. We may need Uncle Jeremy to come over and set up a fish tank in his room. He also seemed to like the monkeys...we think?

Finally Interested

There was one thing at the zoo we all loved – people watching. I would pay more for the people watching than the animal watching. Just amazing. I had no idea the zoo was filled with so many dirt balls. The zoo gives State Fair a run for the money!

Some of the mind boggling sights:
  • A Cole-sized pair of denim shorts on an ass the size of a house.
  • A kid with a tail (like he’s not going to jail later in life)

    Future Inmate #1106877

  • A lady telling her 4-5 month old to "act like a grown up" and to "knock it off"
  • A man in very, VERY short cut offs

    Too Short

At the monkey cage we saw a man with a gash on his arm, covered in dried blood..Kristin almost vomited
  • This lovely pair seemed to be everywhere we were. That gave us plenty of time to stare at the granny panty line through her dress. They are also the parents to Tail Boy.
Not Hot

Overall, we just saw an unbelievable amount of fat struggling to burst through tiny clothes. Like I said, it was pretty amazing. I am feeling much better about my parenting and I think Cole is a pretty lucky kid.

4th of July

we didn't have much planned over the long weekend but we ended up being pretty busy. we took many walks, ate outside at a few new restaurants, went on the boat, and went swimming. cole didn't do much napping but was still a fun little guy. we usually watch the fireworks on the boat, out on the lake. but because being that close would be too much for cole's baby ears we skipped it this year. nick handled this like the grown up he is trying to become, no pouting or whining, just looking forward to next year when cole can join in our annual tradition.

we probably said the word "nap"

Weekend in the North Woods

We are back from a weekend in Laona, WI! [slow posting means we have actually been back for 2 weeks]. After packing the car up to the ceiling with various baby necessities we set out for our 4 hour drive "up north." Once there, we spent over an hour unpacking everything, stayed for about 36 hours, spent another 2 hours packing the car and once home, a few more hours unpacking. Packing and unpacking was a dominant theme in our weekend.

Although a short visit, it was great to hang out with our friends. We ate tons of great food, drank lots of beer, and sat around the campfire and ate smores. Thank you to the High family for a fun time! Cole was a trooper; he did great on the long car rides and slept well at night.

Some weekend highlights include finding a tick on my leg before it burrowed in, Jason not catching a fish, Tyler struggling to get back on the pontoon without a ladder, shooting guns (we can only communicate with Jason via text or email now) and Scott tripping over Cole's jumper and taking a full 6 minutes, with lots of groaning and drama, to finally fall to the floor. Highlights we caught on camera...

Meeting Ryan and Emily for the 1st time

Best buds with Tyler after hanging in the back seat together for 4 hours

Cole and Lucy...BFFs 4 EVA (although in this picture it appears Cole has set out to harm her). Now that I think about it, he did swat her in the face later that weekend too...we think Emily and Scott have forgiven us/him?

dad time

after our long weekend nick is home with cole for a few extra days. grandma debbie and grandma chris both decided to go on vacation the same week...leaving us with no day time baby care. seriously the nerve of those two. luckily for us nick still has a few vacation days he was able to use. so while i am stuck at work they are having a blast. nick sends me picutres and brief updates a lot, which i love. but it also makes me extra jealous.

Getting ready for a morning coffee walk.

Backpacking in the house

Turtle wrestling

Winner!

The napping battle; Cole won the most important third round, resulting in no nap.

Stroller time

And this gem of a message : "Think I just gave myself pink eye. Desitin finger in the eye. Probably some residue on there."

Baby Sick

Awhile back I gave Kristin crap because she caught an illness from Cole. I mean, come on. A baby is going to make you sick? Nice immune system wuss. Well, looks like I have to take it all back. That little germ ball got me. I'm stuffed up and have a bit of a cough. I was sure that my immune system could fight off a baby sickness no problem. I would have also figured that any grown up sized illness would be too much for a baby to handle. I'll have to talk to Dr. Kroner about these theories, but it looks like I have already been proven wrong. Anyway, thanks Cole. I feel like you smell (like poo), but I can't tell for certain because I am so damn stuffy!
