Potty Training, again

We are in potty training mode again. Henry has to be potty trained soon for school, plus he's getting old so this weekend we had him in undies. He does not seem very into it and we only had two successes throughout the entire weekend. I have a bad feeling this may take awhile.

Henry gave Cole a black eye - the details are sketchy

I just found Henry hanging out like this.

Brushing teeth in the morning is now a must for Cole. His breath is awful.

Potty training update:

Henry had a big pee in the potty at Grammie's. He celebrates with two thumbs up. It's not hard to get this kid all jacked up.

Save the chores for next weekend

We are still not settled into the house. There is a lot of work, organizing, cleaning, etc. that needs to be done. It would make sense to get this stuff done over the weekend, but we did a bunch of other stuff instead. Oh well. I'm hoping to be more responsible next weekend. We'll see if anything comes up that we'd prefer over chores. It doesn't take much and I know German Fest and the Brady Street Festival are next weekend.

On Saturday, we went to Ravinia with the Hamilton's and Crissy, Maelin and Oliver. I'm a big fan of this place. There is plenty of open space for the kids to run around and play, which makes the parenting pretty easy, so you can just hang out. I also always like BYO places too. The kids had fun together. Cole and Charlie wrestled around, which reminded me of when I used to beat up Steve all the time. Henry made Steve's watch list. A couple times he grabbed Luella's hand and took her for walk away from everybody.

On Sunday we went to Maxwell Street Days in the morning and then Jackson Hansen's birthday party in the afternoon. Maxwell Street Days was a little disappointing. We didn't really find anything cool (at a reasonable price). I also discovered that Maxwell Street Days could serve as a great anti-smoking advertisement. This place smells like an ash tray (and it's an outdoor event, so that's saying something) and there are definitely some 60 going on 80 looking people.

Surprisingly, the wrestling around never led to tears.

Maxwell Street Days highlight was the pickle on a stick. They both gobbled them down.

Happy 1st Birthday Jackson.
Henry is officially out of his boot. He had a doctor's appointment Monday afternoon and the bone is fully healed. The blister still has a ways to go before it's better, but it will be nice to not have to deal with that boot anymore.

Fun while waiting for the doctor
We are so used to Henry only needing one shoe these days we didn't pack the other one, even though we were anticipating that he would get his boot off. We were feeling like idiots until we saw another little boy limp out of the exam room - one shoe, one bare foot. So at least we weren't alone in our idiocy.

It's a nubby!

There is actually some news to report today. Some of you may have noticed that I put on a little weight lately, well now you know why:  Kristin is currently in the process of baking our third (AND FINAL) installment of the Fuchs family.

Kristin had her first ultrasound on Monday. Everything looks good thus far, hence breaking the news. We can't find out the sex yet, but you can predict with about 80% accuracy. Disgustingly enough, we apparently all start off with a nubby looking penis thing. Yes, even the girls (not just Jamie Lee Curtis). At 11-12 weeks this nub will be more vertical if it's a boy and horizontal if it is a girl. Below are examples and the third one is our ultrasound picture (Don't be fooled by the verbiage in the captions, I'm actually not a doctor).

Boy example with his future ding dong pointing up.

Girl example with her future hoo ha more horizontal.

Our baby. It's pretty horizontal, but its hard to believe that monster nub could turn into anything but a dong, so I'm still predicting a boy.

Boy or Girl?

I am also wondering if we are obligated to keep up this blog for the third kid? And if so, for how long?

When we showed Cole and Henry the above ultrasound picture, we asked them if they knew what was pictured. Cole guessed a frog and Henry guessed a cow. They have also had a lot of questions. We got a few variations of the dreaded "where do babies come from" or "how are babies made" questions. We ignore those since neither Kristin or I know how or are mature enough to answer. Cole has lots of questions, but seems to understand. Henry insists he will be able to have a baby in his tummy when he is older. I think his exact words were "when I am big I will go to the hospital and a baby will walk out of my tummy and then I will be a mommy!" I tried arguing with him, but finally gave up.

In other big news, I think hell has frozen over. It's at least pretty cold down there because Kristin got a job. Yep, a real, career oriented type of job. She will be trained and start working at Aurora St. Luke's as a Psychometrist. It's no doctor salary (man, why didn't I marry a doctor...), but it's a start. We are all very excited for her. I'm sure she is looking for some easy days at a job, opposed to trying to keep the peace with Cole and Henry all day. Although, now I am instantly worried about what we are going to do with the boys. I hope the grandma's are ready to babysit.

And finally, what would be a post without some kid pics (outside of their mother's body), so below are some recent photos. Cole has started soccer camp and Grammie bought him some pretty awesome soccer gear. Henry was not able to participate due to the fractured heel. Better luck next time, Big Hen.

Also, Cole got an infection. His knee is super gross.

I zoomed in on a pic in case you wanted a close up of this disgusting mess of a knee. Yuck!

U.S.A., U.S.A., U.S.A.

Before going over our 4th of July weekend in excruciating detail, we'll give an update on Henry's fractured heel. We went back to the doctor to get a cast last last Monday, but found that Henry's temporary cast gave him a nasty blood blister, so they decided to just go with a boot, The Wee Walker. It is actually working out pretty nice. It's a little less safe, but we can take the boot off so he can get a full blown bath, go swimming and doesn't have to wear it for nap and sleeping. He'll be stuck in the boot for a few weeks, but should be walking on it pretty soon. On a side note, Children's Hospital has a sign that says, "Hot Clinic Staff Only." I thought it was funny. I wonder where the ugly staff has to go.

A week later and this thing still looks nasty. No wonder he was such a sad boy in his temporary cast.

Independence Day weekend was pretty busy. On Friday we went to the Brookfield parade. I am looking forward to when the kids don't want to go to parades. They are super boring and lame. I didn't even get a ton of candy. We also went to the Hansen's for a party. We all had a good time and Cole made a new best friend, and made the poor guy give him a hug when it was time to go. I'll have to start addressing the hugging and kissing soon. It's a bit out of control.

On Saturday we finally made it on the pontoon boat. The boys did a little rock throwing and caught a bunch of fish, so that was fun.

We also managed to fit in a couple of bike rides over the weekend. This was Cole's first time biking outside of the driveway, so we worked on teaching him the rules of the road. The first ride was just the boys and I. Cole did great stopping and looking for cars. He does struggle to pay attention, and one time ended up tipping over in a ditch. No tears, so that was good. Henry has to ride in the Wee Rider on my bike (because of his Wee Walker). He likes it just fine and didn't have any interest taking his own bike. He just sits there and brags that he's not tired or thirsty.

The second bike trip included Kristin. To put it nicely, there was a lot more chatter. She was constantly barking at Cole about this and that and worried about everything. Needless to say, the second trip was not as much fun. There was also another ditch incident. Cole got mad at me because I went in front of him, he stopped paying attention, forgot to turn and flew right into a ditch. He was going much faster and hit a lot harder so this ditch crash had some tears, but no injuries.
