Since our last post we have celebrated Mother's Day, Henry had his Kindergarten orientation, we watched the Kentucky Derby, Hen had a bunch of infections and Kristin and I went to Philly to visit Ben.
The real story though comes from an evening of driveway beers with Cate and Mike, our across the street neighbors. We have done this before with no issue, but have now come to realize that there may be some bad parenting decisions happening.
It was a Friday evening, we put the kids down for bed, picked up the house a little and, once the boys were zonked, we packed up some beers to take across the street. We do this here and there and just leave the boys at home since we are just across the street, sitting in the neighbor's driveway. We do walk back every now and then to check on them...but even so, this might be bad parenting decision #1.
Leaving the house I commented to Kristin that I forgot to tell the boys we would be at the neighbor's house, but neither of us thought much of it since typically once they are asleep, they don't wake up until morning. We also debated whether to shut the garage door since Bella sometimes barks for awhile when we leave. Luckily we left it open.
After being at the neighbor's for awhile, we heard some noises/voices. I couldn't quite tell where they were coming from, but I went to take a look. When I got across the street to our driveway, I saw Cole's panicky little face through the garage door window sobbing his eyes out. I ran over to find both boys crying hysterically, super scared and saying that they thought we left them alone and went to a store.
I felt so bad and to make matters worse, the boys woke up because Henry barfed. Or he barfed at some point, maybe because he was so scared, or maybe from coughing. We didn't get a straight story and we don't know exactly what all went on in the house while we were gone. I had been back to check on them not too long before this happened, so we are telling ourselves it couldn't have gone on for very long.
Cole somewhat kept his cool. When they couldn't find us in the house, he got the bathroom stool to look out the entry door to the garage (and pounded on the window). He said at some point he saw my boat shoes across the street and felt better. Or his exact words were "I stopped being the saddest I've ever been in my life."
So that was the end of driveway beers for that night...and probably forever until one of us gets a monitor that can reach across the street or we decide to spring for a teenage babysitter. RIP driveway beers, you were great while you lasted.

Cole's class had a spa day for all the mothers. They did their hair and make-up, painted nails, the works! |
|
Cole and Henry both filled up their piggy banks so we had to make a deposit at the bank. |

Dinner with Jess and Dan. |

I went to Henry's Mother's Day school program since Cole's was at the same time and there is only one Kristin. Here he is holding his so-called wife's hand. |

Henry just can't contain that butt crack. |

Kindergarten orientation for Henry! |

Normal Grandma provided some gambling money, so the boys could bet on the Kentucky Derby, Cole was a big winner. |
|
Kristin questioned my parenting when I allowed the boys to spray dandelions by themselves. I don't know, she had some problem with the poison or something. |

Icee...Yum! |
Cole's Green Meadows Farm field trip...
That's when you use FaceTime; call one phone from FaceTime, leave in doorway of boys room and bring the other FaceTime phone with you! Driveway beer back on ;)
ReplyDeleteBut here’s the real point: however it had gotten there that Sims Gutierrez was a real fucking set-up. Right there in the grass in front of me, thrown aside like it was a 5 year old hot dogger banana board from K-Mart. A real board. Whose name was on the bottom really didn’t matter.black chain link fence
