D & B Weekend

Kristin and her mom went to Philly to visit Ben and Kim last weekend, so it was an all guys weekend. As previously mentioned the boys also had Hand Foot and Mouth disease.  Being scheduled to have the kids for an entire weekend solo, I was luckily able to make plans to ship the kids off to Great Grandma's and Grandpa's house for a sleepover on Friday night. One night down, two days to go. I got to go to the Marquette game with neighbor Mike, who has awesome seats. Sadly they lost. We also went to The Harp and Trinity. I think I was the oldest person at both bars. That makes me sad.

Before the grandparents came to pick up the boys, I had to play pretend Star Wars. I was R2D2, Cole was Luke Skywalker and Henry was either Bomb Baby or Obi-Wan-Puncher. I don't know what the fuck Bomb Baby was all about. Obi-Wan-Puncher seemed to be similar to Obi-Wan-Kenobi, just with more punching. Pretending is by far the worse activity.

Most of our weekend meals involved items Kristin would not have approved of. Hen started us off by having a plain cold hot dog for dinner. He also ate a frozen waffle at some point. Kristin barely approves of eating hot hot dogs, she would never approve of eating a cold one.

Saturday
On Saturday, the boys had swim at noon, so we started the fun activities after that. Henry picked up a "rock" after swim. He later showed me that his rock got soft because he flattened it. Then I realized he actually just picked up some chewed up gum. So gross.

We immediately headed to the theater to see the new Peanuts movie. We ate some popcorn and way too much candy. The boys liked the movie and Cole even asked if we could buy it so we could watch it at home. Both said their favorite part was at the end when everyone liked Charlie Brown and their least favorite part was when people didn't like Charlie Brown. Makes sense.

We then made a couple lightsabers.

We had breakfast food for dinner. Kristin probably would have been okay with this.

Sunday
Sunday we had to do some cleaning and grocery shopping. I would have skipped these chores, but it's not worth listening to Kristin complain about the house looking bad when she got home.

We hit up George Webbs for lunch, which is definitely a better without Kristin type of outing. She is not a fan of G Webbs. Same with our dinner choice of Sloppy Joe's.

The waitress put their pictures on the wall. They were very excited about that. Cole may really have a future in art. First, a lady bought a picture of his for 50 cents (he was asking 50 dollars) at our rummage this summer and now his work is on display at George Webbs. Not bad.

We/I, of course, watched the Packer game. That was painful. I actually wish Hen covered my eyes throughout the entire game.

I hope some day they pay a little more attention to the game itself.

More Star Wars.

In the end, the boys were great all weekend. A couple crabby moments Sunday around dinner time, but otherwise, all went well. They listened, helped me with Sunday chores, and Cole even helped me out by getting Henry dressed.

This happens no matter who dresses Hen.

And now it's official, we can survive on our own without Kristin. I think she had serious doubts.

Virus on the loose

Cole and Henry recently caught some virus. We think hand, foot and mouth disease. It sucks. Highly contagious and painful.Kristin and I also feel bad because Cole got it first and was up a couple nights in a row drooling and crying really bad. We thought he was just being very dramatic over a single canker sore. I told him to toughen up and all kinds of stuff. Then we finally looked in his mouth to discover a shitload of sores up in there. We took him to the doctor and she said it is highly painful. I feel pretty bad for giving the little guy so much shit. Sorry buddy.

Other pics:
We got a great deal on a couple TMNT costumes after Halloween.
This Santa was upright and is about two stories tall. Hen charged it and knocked it down. Kristin and I both made a sad attempt to stop it from falling over, but couldn't. Oops.
Hen took a lot of pretend pictures at the store.
Apparently they got hot while cleaning up.
Henry's paper plate ant. They now use paper plates to color on and make things. Art is getting awfully wasteful.

Halloween 2015

If the witty title didn't give it away, below are some pictures from Halloween weekend (this year).

Henry and Zoey at school.

We split up in teams for pumpkin carving. Kristin and Cole went with a skull design. Pretty cool. They also added a candy corn and Cole's name. Henry was going to go with a bat template, but then decided to just draw a lot of shapes for me to cut out. Mostly circular in nature.

Cole went crazy when we lit the pumpkins. He was running around and screaming in excitement. I don't know what he was expecting or if he thought there was a likely chance it wouldn't work or something.

As we mentioned previously, the boys had a lot of costume options this year. Cole ended up going as Superman/Spiderman combo. Henry was a Spiderman-Belt boy-Knight guy combo. We met up with the across the street neighbors and then Kroner's, High's and Hansen's. Surprisingly I did not take any pictures (probably because we were drinking). The kids got a lot of candy. Sadly not a lot of my favorites. People could stand to buy better candy (e.g. Cate).

The next morning the boys sorted their candy. Then they got carried away with trading and just started tossing candy back and forth.

Pre-Halloween Post

First, Cole and Henry finished their first chapter book, Yeah, I guess not all that exciting, but I was kinda surprised they were able to sit through a couple chapters each night without pictures. It was The Mouse and the Motorcycle, which I'm pretty sure I've read before?

Second, a few nights ago Cole was sleep walking, went into the kitchen, into the closet where we keep our garbage cans, pulled down his pants and lifted the lid to pee in the garbage. We stopped him just in time. It was pretty hilarious.

Third, we have a rock problem. Rocks are everywhere. They can usually be found on tables and chairs in the entryway. I found one in my slipper. I found a dresser drawer filled with them. Kristin even found one in Hen's bed. For some reason Kristin is encouraging this behavior with little bins for under their bed that they can put stuff in. Hen's is filled entirely with rocks.

The pics below are from a new playground in Franklin that I took Cole and Henry a couple weekends ago. It is huge and they loved it. Sadly for them, I work in Franklin and will probably never make that drive on a weekend again.

The boys enjoy their new art box, which they have access to without us.

Cole has bagged groceries twice now and has learned that heavy stuff can't go on fragile stuff. We had some smooshed groceries the first time around.

I thought the outfits picked out today were funny. One in all gray and the other in all red. Just a coincidence that they both chose to dress in single colors.

Cole and Henry will be busy with weddings next year. Aunt Jess and soon-to-be Uncle Dan asked the boys to be ring bearers. Jess and Dan had a very nice note and gift for the boys. Very cool. Then they will also be part of Uncle Ben and Kim's wedding. I am only giving about 50/50 odds that they cooperate.

Not sick of looking at our family. Well, you're in luck. We also took family pictures. This seems to happen too often. Click here for family picture preview.
